🔑Key Immigration Changes in 2024

📉 Cap on International Student Study Permits

Canada has placed a cap on the number of study permits issued over the next few years, aiming to manage the demand on housing and resources in major cities. What does this mean? Don't worry—this won't impact every student, and we will keep you posted on any important updates that might affect your plans.

🗣️ New Language Requirements for PGWP

Starting November 2024, there will be new language proficiency requirements for those applying for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). University graduates will need CLB Level 7, and college graduates CLB Level 5. It's an important step to ensure that students are fully prepared to enter the Canadian workforce.

💼 Changes to Spousal Work Permits

From now on, spousal open work permits will focus on students in high-demand fields like master’s and doctoral programs. This shift is meant to better align work permits with Canada's economic needs.

Canada to introduce new rules around off-campus work hours for international students

International students enrich Canada’s social, cultural and economic fabric. That is why, in recent months, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has introduced reforms to the International Student Program, to ensure system integrity while protecting students from fraud and financial vulnerability. Students who come to Canada must be here to study. As such, allowing students to work up to 24 hours per week will ensure they focus primarily on their studies, while having the option to work, if necessary. Saying this, we are still waiting on government to make the new 24 hour/week policy effective. So please wait before you can start working.

💼 Focus on Economic Immigration

Canada remains committed to welcoming more permanent residents through its economic immigration programs like Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). With a target of 485,000 permanent residents for 2024, Canada is focused on growing its economy by bringing in skilled workers. 🌍

The Othello Tunnels

The Othello Tunnels are a series of five tunnels originally built for railway access, and now part of the Trans Canada Trail system. The tunnels are constructed through native granite, with concrete and wood interior supports, connected in several areas by trestles. The tunnels are located on the old rail grade of the Kettle Valley Railway just north of Hope in southwestern British Columbia.
